Managerial Shift to Enhance Investment Outcomes

ANZ Investments (NZX: ANZ) has announced a significant change in its management strategy, replacing MFS Institutional Advisors (MFS) with BlackRock Investment Management (Australia) (BLK). This transition marks BlackRock as one of four external fund managers handling ANZ's international equity exposure for KiwiSaver schemes, investment funds, and discretionary investment management services.

Strategic Focus on Long-Term Outcomes

Fiona Mackenzie, ANZ's managing director for funds management, emphasized the company's commitment to active investment management and its goal of achieving robust long-term investment results for clients. "ANZ Investments remains an active investor and will continue to make investment decisions that we believe will deliver strong long-term investment outcomes for all our customers," said Mackenzie. "We are focused on enhancing and growing our Funds Management business and delivering better outcomes for New Zealanders."

Adapting to Market Needs

To maintain a competitive edge and meet evolving customer needs, ANZ Investments regularly reviews its external managers, assessing their impact on the overall portfolio's risk and return. The introduction of BlackRock's strategy is expected to bolster the portfolio's resilience across varying market conditions. "We believe introducing the BlackRock strategy will contribute positively in both respects. It is actively managed and designed to be resilient to a variety of market environments," Mackenzie added.

Expanding Partnerships

This strategic change will account for approximately 12% of ANZ's total funds under management. Additionally, ANZ Investments continues to seek potential collaborations with both BlackRock and Mercer, aiming to further strengthen its investment management capabilities.

This move underscores ANZ Investments' proactive approach in ensuring optimal investment outcomes and adapting to the dynamic financial landscape for the benefit of its customers.
